Thomas E. Whittenhall, Jr. (TJ), Laser Safety Officer, is a member of the NU Office for Research Safety - Health Physics Services team. The Health Physics Services team oversees the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiaton at Northwestern University by:

  • Facilitating the creation and diffusion of knowledge, education and information,
  • Enhancing the cultural approach to safety, security and risk management,
  • Developing, fostering, and promoting a cooperative community, and
  • Supporting all activities involving the peaceful use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

TJ welcomes questions concerning any of the following: ionizing radiation protection, emergency response, radiological surveys, instrument calibration, radiation worker authorization, exposure-monitoring and dosimetry services, shipping/receiving of radioactive materials, and radioactive waste.

TJ is a proud member of the Health Physics Services team, and strives to serve Northwestern University's community providing prompt and effective customer service in pursuit of departmental goals.
