Chemical Safety Information

The safe use of chemicals in laboratories is regulated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Laboratory Standard among other regulations. Local building codes mandate Maximum Allowable Quantities of certain hazardous chemicals. All hazardous chemicals must be inventoried. Additional special licensing, registration, security or handling provisions apply to Chemicals of Interest, Select Agent Toxins, Controlled Substances, radioactive materials, high risk toxic gases and chemical waste.

The chemical compliance guidelines at Northwestern are listed on this and related pages.

Responsibility for maintaining related safety guidelines and coordinating the chemical safety program is assigned to ORS.
